I was chuffed to bits when C64 legendary game Mayhem in Monsterland came to the Wii. However, I did feel that later on when playing it it wasn't as good as normal.

Reason being is the joypad sucked! I was angry because of it. Up doesn't work as jump on a joypad. Have you got any C64 games for the Wii? How do they play?

Hey Rhys - any other C64 favorites of yours? Newly discovered gems?

Any RPG's that you liked?

I'm interested in the Speccy ported games that came to the C64 as I missed out on that whole thing, being in the U.S.

The few I did play had me thinking "why is this all monochrome, and why would anyone intentionally program a C64 game like this?" --- Now that I know it's become a bit of a fascination for me.

Dizzy was a UK thing, it seems, because at least for the early-to-mid/late 80's when I was C64 gamer (up until about '88), I never saw anything Dizzy in game shops.

Then again, I missed Last Ninja stuff as well...I was pretty into the more serious RPG type games.

That said, I am now recommending Dizzy games on my C64 "gateway" site because I've played a couple of the games (not all the way through yet) and they are great games for C64 beginners.

I think I'll do a more extensive Dizzy writeup - or if you save me the trouble I'll link here! (Ha)

Cheers,

See, I never really did see the appeal of adventure game creators. They just took too long, and no way could you play the games again, and just seemed like you were making games for other people. It'd be writing a book or movie where you'd know the ending, pointless (though imagine how JK Rowling felt).

If you did release them in the public domain, you wouldn't get that much of a response, just the odd letter of a fanboy and a half decent review somewhere.

It was more like a 'create your own Ultima' type of setup, but it had 4 themes or so, such as generic Fantasy, Spy (James Bond type), Futuristic, and one more I think. Lots of pre-created items, character models, etc.

It was not a graphic text adventure type of game. You'd place graphical tiles, and it was a top-down RPG style.

The only problem was that it was rather slow to play, not zippy if you wanted to get around quickly.

But the music was great, and there were some pre-made adventures that were cool, as well.

Was that game - Adventure Construction Set similar to The Graphic Adventure Creator?
