I used to love Spy vs. Spy. It was a complex game back in 1984. Being a fan of Mad Magazine, it had mass media appeal. Of course, it was fun to clobber your opponent. Unfortunately, I usually lost this game because my friend owned it and he played it more than I. It was very frustrating to get killed and sit out while the opponent could continue playing, setting up the next kill.

Spy vs. Spy was awesome. I had the latter two games, where a lot of fun was had setting up traps around the exit to the level. You'd let your opponent collect all the evidence, then they'd run into the traps and drop the evidence, you'd pick it up, leave the level and win the game.

Simple! You didn't figure that out doubledragon? :P

Picking a favorite is very tough, but given the amount of time I spent on it, I would say probably Adventure Construction Set by Electronic Arts. I made a whole "sequel" to Archon 2: Adept, called Adept's Revenge that re-used the creatures from that game and turned it into an adventure. Unfortunately, the disk is lost to the mists of time...I should have shared it with the pirate-types. :)

Yeah, I wished I had a few of the games that I made. Mainly SEUCK games, but managed to make a pretty swish Mario Kart game from it :)

Was that game - Adventure Construction Set similar to The Graphic Adventure Creator?

It was more like a 'create your own Ultima' type of setup, but it had 4 themes or so, such as generic Fantasy, Spy (James Bond type), Futuristic, and one more I think. Lots of pre-created items, character models, etc.

It was not a graphic text adventure type of game. You'd place graphical tiles, and it was a top-down RPG style.

The only problem was that it was rather slow to play, not zippy if you wanted to get around quickly.

But the music was great, and there were some pre-made adventures that were cool, as well.

See, I never really did see the appeal of adventure game creators. They just took too long, and no way could you play the games again, and just seemed like you were making games for other people. It'd be writing a book or movie where you'd know the ending, pointless (though imagine how JK Rowling felt).

If you did release them in the public domain, you wouldn't get that much of a response, just the odd letter of a fanboy and a half decent review somewhere.
