Considered by many to be one of the greatest all-time fighting games, Mavel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes is one game no Dreamcast owner should be without. It combines perfect arcade like graphics and gameplay, a ton of characters, different game modes and enough unlockables to keep you busy playing for hours.
The games cast of characters is something to behold. Including all the unlockables, there are 56 characters to choose from. It has most of everyones favorite fighters from the Street Fighter series, Marvel coomic book characters as well as numerous famous characters from other Capcom games such as Megaman. Each player chooses their three favorite characters to fight with. During the game you can tag between your three fighters at any time, or call one in to help for a second, while you control another.
The control system is the standard 2D fighter controls with a few upgrades, such as the ability to link up your fighters super combos to devastate your opponents, if you pick the right fighters that can link all three.
Don’t worry, each fighter has multiple super combos to choose from. Other than than, it has all the moves, combos and air combos you could ever want. One major difference is that to suit the Dreamcast controller, Capcom went from a six button system to only four buttons. Personally, I like the four button system, it’s simple to get into and start kicking some butt.

Graphically, the characters look the same as they have in past games but the backgrounds are amazing 3D environments with all sorts of things moving around them and they look simply stunning. On some higher resolution TV’s the characters can look a little blocky and somewhat out of place against the 3D backgrounds.
Game modes include arcade, 2 player versus, training and survival. As you play in all but versus modes, you earn points that can be used in a character shop, to unlock new characters, costumes, and stages.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 is everything you could want in a fighting game and should not be missed by fans of the genre or anyone else looking for a non-stop action filled game that they can play for hours. If you own a Dreamcast and you don’t have this game in your collection, you are missing out on one of the truly great fighting games of all time.
This is my fav fighting game of all time! I have been trying to hunt down another copy for my DC. One of the most fun games of all time! 😉
